The Swan Lake was a small, solo university project that was my first foray into developing text-based games. As part of my "Serious Games" major, the focus of this project was to bring awareness to something. I chose to develop a game that could explore popular ballet compositions and teach the rich history of composers like Tchaikovsky to players who may not know much about that world.
Developing a game that focused on a physical theme (ballet) as a text-based game really limited my ability, and caused me to explore the best ways to highlight the composition, and research what was important about the ballet, on top of researching interesting mechanics for text-based gameplay.
I really enjoyed developing this project, and have since worked on it further on a larger scope, moving it from the text-based game to an RPG. I hope to be able to develop it into a fully fledged game in the future.
