ONE NIGHT in the life of? was a short turn-around university project I was a part of in 2021. Our goal was to create a presentation for a "current industry disruptor". My teammates and I, all from the game development stream, chose a game developer who had fully embraced his fan community, a move not often seen in the game industry. Our research led us to learning about his initiative to sponsor fan-creators' projects so that they could develop better fan-games, without the sponsor personally influencing them. Our research also directed us to learning about the "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish" strategy, and it's negative consequences on industries.

To do our research and subject justice, we decided to reverse engineer our presentation into a Twine engine game, simulating character creation. It featured a linear path with the illusion of player choice (we wanted to provide for branched narrative, but our scope was severely limited due to the short turn-around of the project), complete with voice-acting and jump scares.

For the development of the game, I was focused on creating the narrative flow and dialogue, and making sure it relayed the important information garnered from our research to the player. This project really pushed me to working with the "less is more" strategy, as we wanted to make sure our information was easily digestible and understandable by any player.
